Should We Name a Road in South C? Check Out What the Boomplay Team Had to Say

E Sir continues to inspire musicians and music fans alike – over 19 years since his passing. The legendary artist (born Issa Mmari) was a key figure in the early years of a burgeoning movement in Kenyan Hip Hop, and his name continues to carry weight.

His lyrical ability and charisma were unquestioned – but even more so, was his representation of music as a tool that could help uplift families and communities – whether from poverty, or just bring joy and life to the hood.

And in his own particular hood – South C –his name remains King. Which is why there are now increasing calls from his fellow musicians to have a road named in his honour. His close friend and collaborator David Mathenge (alias Nameless) has put together a petition, that’s asking for help from Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to consider the request.

He details the fact that since his passing in a horrific car accident 19 years ago, the artist’s impact continues to be felt.

E Sir passed away in a road accident on the Nairobi Nakuru highway on the 16^th March 2003. Nameless recently worked with a number of artistes from different generations, including Trio Mio and Habib, in a tribute to the star.
