This weekend, Netflix is adding a Swedish miniseries, a comedy TV series, a drama movie based on a novel, and a Spanish thriller TV series. As the coronavirus pandemic continues, studios are finally releasing in theaters all those movies that had to be delayed, while streaming platforms continue to keep their doors open for those that are skipping a theatrical release. In Netflix’s case, it also keeps adding new licensed and original content every week, and even though the streaming giant is currently in the middle of controversy, it’s still treating its audience to a variety of content.
Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend - May 6.
1. Clark
Clark is a Swedish miniseries directed by Jonas Åkerlund and starring Bill Skarsgård as Clark Olofsson, the notorious Swedish bank robber who gave rise to the expression “The Stockholm Syndrome”. Clark follows Olofsson on his life journey as he fooled all of Sweden to fall in love with him, despite several counts of drug trafficking, attempted murder, assault, theft, and dozens of bank robberies. Based on the truths and lies revealed in Olofsson’s autobiography, Clark provides a fictional take on one of the most controversial personalities in contemporary Swedish history.
2. The Pentaverate
The Pentaverate is a comedy TV series created by Mike Myers and starring himself in multiple roles. Since the Black Plague in 1347, a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good. One unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself – but remember: the Pentaverate must never be exposed. Also starring are Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, and Debi Mazar.
3. Along For The Ride
Along for the Ride is a drama movie directed by Sofia Alvarez and based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Dessen. It’s Auden’s (Emma Pasarow) last summer before college and she’s spending it in picturesque Colby Beach. While other teens party in the sun, loner Auden spends her time roaming the streets after everyone else is asleep. Everything changes when she meets Eli (Belmont Cameli), a charming and mysterious fellow insomniac. On their nightly adventures, Eli challenges Auden to a quest to live out all her childhood dreams. Their connection pushes them to confront why they've been content living life in the shadows as they begin to show each other how to live life to the fullest. Also starring are Kate Bosworth, Andie McDowell, and Dermot Mulroney.
4. Welcome To Eden
Welcome to Eden is a Spanish thriller TV series created by Joaquín Górriz and Guillermo López Sánchez. With a seemingly simple question like “are you happy?”, Zoa (Amai Aberasturi) and four young, attractive and social media active boys and girls are invited to the most exclusive party in history, set on a secret island and organized by the brand of a new drink. What starts as an exciting adventure will soon turn into the trip of their lives, but paradise is not really what it seems. Also starring in Welcome to Eden are Berta Castañé, Lola Rodríguez, Begoña Vargas, Sergio Momo, Ana Mena, Belinda, and Amaia Salamanca.
