ROONEY could set his heart on the United job, but how would he deal with the Red Devils if he were the coach?
United's all-time top scorer revealed the only reason he went to coach was to one day be in Old Trafford's hot seat.
Rooney is currently the manager of the Championship Derby - and neglected an interview with the Everton youth club earlier this season.
He admitted: "The whole reason I went to management was Manchester United. I was offered a job interview for Everton.
"I want to be the manager of United. I know I'm not ready yet but I have to plan everything I do to make sure one day it happens."
But how would Rooney introduce those unknown United stars?
One man who is sure to start is Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rooney and CR7 spent the best five years playing together between 2004 and 2009, beating Chelsea in the 2008 Champions League final.
And with Ronaldo planning to play until he turns 40, he is likely to lead the Rooney Red Devils' ranks.
Rooney also played alongside Jesse Lingard before leaving United in 2017.
And he could be the one to help manage the stuck 29-year-old's work.
The only problem is that Lingard's contract expires at Old Trafford at the end of this season.
Elsewhere Rooney has revealed that he hopes Marcus Rashford will break his goal-scoring record with Manchester United, which will include the 24-year-old starting his career.
Rashford has been linked with a move away from United, but Rooney said: "Getting a record and being United's top scorer is a big deal.
"My hope is that Marcus Rashford f *** ing will take his head off his *** and go break that record. He's a young Manchester United man."
Aside from bringing Lingard and Rashford back to the first team, Rooney's backbone would remain the same.
But one player expected to be signed is 21-year-old left-back Lee Buchanan.
Buchanan plays under Rooney in Derby, and won the club's Young Player of the Year award last season.
With Luke Shaw and Alex Telles failing to finish the starting point, Rooney could put his trust in the youngsters.
Otherwise Rooney may decide to shake things up a little if he is handed over the kingdom.
Rooney also played alongside Anthony Martial at Old Trafford, and with the Frenchman set to return from his summer loan spell, Rooney may decide to hire as his senior.
Especially if Ronaldo decides to call it a day at United for the second time in his football career.
Another player who could be signed by Rooney from Derby is midfielder Louie Sibley.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a number of high-profile matches, and has also been played at various youth and UK levels.
