Sancho's camp 'unhappy' with Rangnick comments on Man Utd winger

The United interim boss has already had to deal with a wave of wantaway stars in recent weeks, with as many as 17 Red Devils rumoured to want out of Old Trafford as soon as possible.

While there may be some way to go before Sancho also declares his desire to leave, those around him are thought to have been left unhappy with Rangnick's public explanation regarding his recent form.

The Times report that Sancho's team of representatives did not appreciate Rangnick implying to the media that the winger's poor form stems from mental factors.

The 21-year-old joined United in the summer for a fee of £73m from Borussia Dortmund but has failed to justify that price-tag in his first half-season in the red half of Manchester.

Different sections of the Old Trafford faithful have debated the reasons behind why he is so out of form, but Rangnick has claimed some of his issues are in his head.

"It's a different league, a different competition, a more physical league," said the United boss.

"Now he's 21, playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. I think it's also got to do with a lot of the things up here, in his head.

"But in training, whenever I see him train, he's showing up and one of the best players in the training sessions.

"Now it's about the transfer to when he's playing, showing the same kind of level and performance on the pitch."

Rangnick went on to insist that the shift in expectation is taking its toll on Sancho.

"Everyone expected from him that he would be one of the best players in the team.

This is psychologically and emotionally, a more challenging situation than the one at Borussia Dortmund.

"But these are exactly the kind of steps that he has to make to become a top player for the next 10 years at this club."

The former RB Leipzig boss seemed to distance himself from his responsibility to get a tune out of Sancho with his later remarks.

"We can give guidelines, we can give him a helping hand and show him we are trying to accompany him on this way and give him all the necessary assistance he needs, but in the end it's up to him to take the next steps."

Sancho has just one goal and zero assists to show for his 17 Premier League outings this term.
