Germany booked their spot at next year’s World Cup on Monday night, courtesy of a Chelsea-themed drubbing of North Macedonia.
Werner at the double Hansi Flick’s men were back in action a short time ago.
In the nation’s final outing of the international break, Die Mannschaft made the trip to Skopje, for a World Cup qualifying showdown with North Macedonia.
Germany headed into proceedings aiming to keep alive a stellar qualification campaign to date, which had seen them rattle off wins in six of their seven outings.
And, upon the final whistle sounding at the Tose Proeski National Arena, this is exactly what the visitors managed.
A predictably dominant display ultimately culminated in Flick and co. emerging on the right side of a comprehensive 4-0 scoreline.
The evening’s scoring was opened early in the 2nd-half, when Kai Havertz slotted home into an empty net owing to some selfless work on the part of Thomas Muller:
Chelsea teammate Timo Werner then got in on the action, finding the net twice in the space of three minutes to kill off any remaining hope of a North Macedonia comeback.
Both of the 25-year-old’s strikes proved of the highest calibre, the first an unstoppable half volley from the centre of the area, and the 2nd a sumptuous bending effort from the left-hand side:
Werner’s timely return to form – the hitman also netted against Southampton in his last Chelsea appearance will no doubt be welcomed with open arms by Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, who is currently sweating on the fitness of star striker Romelu Lukaku ahead of this weekend’s return to Premier League action.#Sports
