Does Krispah’s Hit Song ‘Ndovu Ni Kuu’ Deserve To Be Pulled Down From YouTube?

I am not very interested in politics generally. But when there’s politics around an artist and their art, then you absolutely got me.
There is an ongoing debate surrounding the issue of Krispah’s song being pulled down by YouTube from the streaming platform.
The main complaint is that the song’s beat was allegedly copied from an earlier-released song titled ‘V8’ by upcoming artist Dexta Briyanka. (Remember that name we’ll come back to it later)
However, there is a second reason that seems to have sparked all the debate. In his song with Khaligraph and Boutross, Krispah sings negatively about ‘K.U’, which most Kenyans know to be the shorthand for Kenyatta University.
“Mtoto wangu akiitwa K.U ntakataa, Hakunanga masomo K.U nmekata…”, are the lyrics that paint the tertiary institution as one that doesn’t offer quality education.
A lot of the students that go to the University have expressed their unhappiness with the song.
More drama unravelled after Krispah revealed that the school reached out to him via email and blamed him and his song for their 40% decline in enrollment this year. This was shortly before the song was taken down from YouTube.
Then remember that name I asked you to keep in mind? Dexta Briyanka? The upcoming artist who instigated the whole saga? Yes. He has just released a song titled ‘Wife Material’. Kiki much? You be the judge.
The question remains though, what does K.U in the song stand for? And do you think Krispah’s song ‘Ndovu Ni Kuu’ deserves to have been pulled down from YouTube?
