Italian football side are the new European soccer champions after beating favourites England on penalties on Sunday night.
It didn't come home after all. England kicked off the excitement after scoring 2 minutes into the final game at Wembley stadium. Their 55-year wait on a major trophy will still go on.
The answer to England's early lead by Luke Shaw came in the second half via Leonardo Bonucci who scored the equaliser. There was a whirlwind of highs and lows, hard fouls and close calls, and plenty of misses till the extra time.
Italy unbeaten in 33 matches showed up and owned the game. After a tense extra time that failed to produce a winner, it was on penalties which was a bitter disappointment for the Gareth Southgates's team.
England missed three of their 5 penalties. Rashford hit the post, Sancho and Saka's were denied by Gianluigi. Italians Domenico Berali, Bonucci and Fredrico Bernardeschi scored all the goals helping Italy lift their second European championships.
The manager Roberto Mancini put together an impressive mix of youth and experience to hold fort. The outstanding final was their 34th unbeaten game that bore a crown. The Euros went to Rome.
