#BuzzScreenReview: 'Fatherhood', Perfect for the Father's Day Weekend
Somebody must be cutting onions y'all! Kevin Hart is back on screen with yet another of his works dubbed Fatherhood. Yes, he still gets tears in your eyes with this one only, not with his usual ways. 'Fatherhood', which comes out this Friday on Netflix just in time for Father's Day weekend, is based on a book by Matt Logelin that chronicled his life as a single parent to a newborn girl after his wife dies unexpectedly shortly after giving birth.
Based on the officially released trailer, Matt (Kevin Hart) who just lost his wife, best friend and companion Liz (Deborah Ayorinde), is left with the task of raising their newborn daughter.
To do a perfect job and ensure to do it right, he must move past his pain and broken heart to find the light and love that his daughter brings to the world. He must compose himself and figure out how to raise her, not only that. He must at least try fitting in the wife's shoes left behind and raise their daughter as she would have.
Where to begin? Kevin struggles to understand the dynamics of being an only new parent and be best at it in a world where people surrounding him doubt his abilities to pull through with the pressure from in-laws who assume the best interest at heart. In all means necessary, he cannot afford to fail for two reasons. His daughter and his daughter!
He does pretty well on his own. Maddy (played by Melody Hurd once she reaches school age) is a well-adjusted child by the time Matthew begins dating again, and she takes kindly to Lizzie (DeWanda Wise), his new girlfriend. But the pressures of a relationship and fatherhood as well as a job and the taunting Maddy faces from classmates — she wears pants to school, rather than the skirt the dress code requires, self-expression that's encouraged by Matthew — all builds to a breaking point, and something has to give.
The movie applies all of Hart’s considerable skills including, the laughs in which he credibly goes through all the pain and glory of becoming a dad in a way he certainly was not prepared.
'Fatherhood' as a movie makes one think long and hard about certain aspects of life that will have you shook in your seat and at the same time makes you appreciate so much in life. One thing the movie manages to achieve as production is its ability to evoke emotions. Hart will have your heart feeling some way, which reminds me, grab a tissue or two to be on the safe side and some onions for disguise! 'Fatherhood' is a testament to fatherhood held together with heart and by Hart. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know if you are watching 'Fatherhood' anytime soon.
