#BuzzScreenReview: Gunpowder Milkshake, the Female John Wick

If you thought watching Keanu Reeves as John Wick was the ultimate screen turn on then you must have not heard of Gunpowder Milkshake and Karen Gillen. Yes, that's right, she is the female version of John Wick!

The upcoming bloody and flashy action thriller shows Gillan as a deadly assassin on a violent and stylish rampage who sets to complete her missions at all costs.

Directed by Navot Papushado and stars Gillen, Chloe Coleman, Lena Headey, Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino, Paul Giamatti, and Freya Allan. Gunpowder Milkshake is scheduled for release on Netflix on July 14.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of John Wick and Atomic Blonde not to mention Nobody, The Gunpowder trailer takes us through the story of an assassin who is contracted to hunt down guys who steal from a particular firm,(which from the way she says it, is a bad idea to think of stealing from the firm). Now, she has a job that she intends to see through and ensure perfect service delivery only thing is, the thieves change the rules of the game unexpectedly when in the middle of all the drama they end up abducting a young girl.

Turns out, Gillen the assassin has a heart and cannot shoot to kill everyone and count the girl as collateral damage. She has to save her as she completes her assignment.

What she does not know is, the moment she chooses to make the little girl her problem, is the exact moment that she has the firm turn against her making her the ultimate target of elimination! Shock, on them, for there's so much awaiting them on the other side including, a whole female assassin crew plus Gillen's mother whom she had not seen for 15 years and can shoot better than her! You, ready? I don't think you are. For what follows will blow your mind. Remember when John Wick was termed 'ex-communicado' and had all the bad guys thirsty for his blood and the reward money? It is kind of the same vibe only, this kind John, is replaced with sexy females with big guns and the ability to slice a human, not to mention hammer, literally! The action includes flashy fistfights, Gatling guns, and plenty of other couch shifting stunts from Sam and her sisterhood of fellow assassins.

Gillan has proven herself time and again as a major Hollywood star capable of both, commanding attention and leading onscreen action, in movies like Jumanji and, she’s perfectly cast in the assassin role in Gunpowder Milkshake. As a plus, the film also has a stellar supporting cast on both the heroes and villains sides. Generally, the movie is a fun twist on many movies and a blessing for the viewers especially at a time when the streets are hungry for interesting productions.
