#BuzzScreenReview: Catch the Road Action With The Mitchells vs. the Machines
If you are a lover of animation, then this is definitely your gig! Walk with me. If you haven't yet watched it, then you should know that The Mitchells vs. the Machines is an animated adventure that deals with issues surrounding family dynamics and the dangers (and benefits) of technology. It is written and directed by Michael Rianda and Jeff Rowe.
In Summary:
The family's firstborn daughter (Katie) is ready to go to college. ( The story revolves so much around her and her father's relationship). As a teenager, she cannot wait to get away from her embarrassing father (Rick), with whom they no longer get along.
Their collapsing relationship is affecting their entire family (mum and young brother) who, are tired of how bad things are turning forcing the mum to put her foot down and ask the husband to fix things before their child goes off to school. In her words, "if her daughter never wants to come back home because of the fight, they too (mum and dad) will have even a bigger problem! What to do?
In a bid to try and fix the mess, Rick cancels Katie's plane ticket so that they, (as a family) could accompany her to school and have fun while at it. (Not that she loves the idea but, she catches up eventually).
The Mitchell family sets out on a cross-country road trip just as a new AI technology decides to capture and contain humanity. (Pretty sure you have thought of such a scenario once in your life), and all the times, the takeover has not been pretty.
Expect scenes of peril, and violence and, destruction laced with lots of humour. The Mitchells are in danger of being hurt or abducted a few times, and robots use built-in weapons to attack and destroy. That is not all. In the middle of their crazy adventure, they get the chance to meet up with a super organized family (mum's foes) who have them doubting themselves. (The Mitchells are the anti-Incredibles: They don't have any special powers, they initially lack family cohesiveness, and they have competing interests (Rick wants tech-free together time, while Katie wants to be away and at college, making movies).
Of course, you have to watch the movie to find out how it all goes down besides, that is enough spoiler for a movie. Don't you think?
My take?
It is a perfect animation for the whole family, a good way to hang out and for parents and their kids to grasp a thing or two about strained relationships. No sexual content, no abusive content (asides from the mention of an idiot) you, will love it.
Have you watched it? Let us know what you think of it and if not, check out the trailer below.
