Well, here’s something you don’t hear every day. Nicole Young, the wife of famous rapper Dr. Dre, has filed a suit against her man claiming her rights… wait for it… over his name, ‘Dr. Dre’! Moreover, she claims her rights over the artist’s classic breakout album, ‘The Chronic’. As per the court papers, Andre Romelle Young (Dre) “secretly” transferred “valuable trademarks” that they jointly owned (the name and album) after he kicked Nicole out of their home in April.
In the suit, it is stated that Dre registered a new holding company just after forcing Nicole out of the family home and began transferring the trademarks “misrepresenting himself as the sole owner.” Apparently, Dre’s idea was to have the rights entirely for himself and this was well over a month before he threatened to file for divorce in late June. However, Nicole went ahead and filed for divorce herself two days subsequent to the threat.
As it is so alleged, Young claims that she “demanded return of the trademarks” but Dre “failed and refused to do so”. Young now seeks damages in figures to be determined by the court as well as an injunction to have the trademarks in question to be transferred to a trust. The couple has been together for 24 years. #Music #hiphopmusic
