Chadwick Boseman, the famous actor who graced the world with Black Panther, is no more. The 43-year-old succumbed to colon cancer that he was diagnosed with back in 2016. He had never spoken of it publicly but concern had grown when it was noticed that he had lost his once well built-up physique, trading it for a much thinner profile. It is reported that he passed on at home in the company of his wife and family with a confirmation coming through his social media platforms on 29th August at 5:00AM EAT. It is a huge blow for many fans who had grown so fond of him over the years.
As we eulogize the fallen hero, it is crucial to take note of several pointers about his life that may not have been apparent to the public, many of which make him a greater symbol that he already appears to be:
1. Boseman has been acting since 2003
The first TV role accorded to him was 17 years ago in an episode of ‘Third Watch’. He also took part in a soap opera dubbed ‘All My Children’ but was fired after airing concerns of racist stereotypes in the script. Boseman has also featured in episodes of ‘CSI:NY’, ‘Law & Order’ and ‘ER’. You probably didn't know that.
2. He was vegan!
Now this one will definitely get people wondering how he was able to build such a great physique off nothing but greens. As it turns out, he was quite choosy about what he ate.
3. He wrote his first play in his junior year
The thespian in him was alive from such a young age that he wrote, directed and staged his first ever play dubbed ‘Crossroads’ at his school after a classmate of his was shot and killed.
4. He filmed and appeared in 6 movies after his diagnosis
Amidst the grueling operations and chemo sessions, the Black Panther actor went on to take up major roles in six different works, including ‘Marshall’, ‘Black Panther’, two Avengers movies’, ‘21 Bridges’, ‘Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods’ and an upcoming ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. If this doesn’t roar “warrior” I don’t know what does.
Being an activist of Black Lives Matter, it was the honor of his career to birth Black Panther and breathe life into the chant “Wakanda Forever!”. This is a very somber moment for the family as it is for the world of art. May his soul rest in eternal peace. #wakandaforever #ChadwickBoseman #BlackPanther
