“They Gave Us A Lot Of Sh!t” – What Did Sauti Sol Do To MDQ?

Muthoni Drummer Queen has not been the happiest she could be in recent days. This is as a result of a disagreement she had with Sauti Sol back in 2014. The founder of Blankets & Wine recently disclosed in an interview that she was left rather unimpressed by the 4-man boy band 6 years back during the 2014 edition of her event.
As it so happens, the event had developed into something that she had not premeditated it to be. MDQ had launched the event in 2008 and had only imagined it to be a close friends’ affair. However, seeing its potential and luring power, she reimagined it into a platform for upcoming local artists to showcase their products. However, it proceeded to blow out of proportion and this was the root cause of the conflict. In the 2014 episode, MDQ had scheduled Sauti Sol to show up as a closing act on one of the nights where they would perform with South Africa’s Mi Casa. Apparently, however, this didn’t sit well with the band.
“What Sauti Sol understood is that we’ve put them sort of like the DJ who plays after the main act.” Muthoni narrated. “What we meant with a lot of love and admiration, they took it like we were trying to sabotage them. They came through on Saturday and they gave us a lot of sh!t,” the Blankets&Wine CEO continued. She added that it was something that bothered her very much and that she deserved an apology for it.
The news got to Sauti Sol and, reasonably so, a statement of apology was issued by Bien on behalf of the entire team. In the note, Bien attributes their ill conduct then to immaturity and insecurity, since it was a time when they were facing a shaky relationship with the public and the industry as a whole. MDQ was kind enough to acknowledge the said apology and it seems like the hatchet is well and truly buried.
