Buzz Movie Review: Hire A Woman, Featuring Your Favorite BBN Housemate, Erica.
By Adesewa
Movie Genre: Romantic Comedy.
Starring: Erica Nlewedim, Alex Ekubo, Alexx Ekubo, Bamike Olawunmi, Ifu Ennada, Mike Godson, Nancy Isime.
Hire a woman produced by Chinneylove Eze and directed by Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi, like its 2017 sequel (Hire A Man), is the perfect movie to see if you want to sit back, relax, enjoy a movie and have a good time. We all know that Romcoms are mostly cliché so don't go expecting a blockbuster from this movie. But hey, our baby girl, Erica is in it.
The Plot
The movie tells the story of Jide(played by (Uzor Arukwe) a tech guru takes his female friend, Teni (played by Nancy Isime) along to a weekend reunion of old friends to pretend she is his girlfriend because his ex and all-time crush is coming to the reunion and he wants to make her jealous. Just like in the sequel where the white lie falls apart and a true love story replaces it with some gbas gbos.
The Review
From the very first scene of this film, I got the vibe that this was going to be fun and it was legit fun with a mix of awkwardness and some rolling of eyes to the back.
Erricccaaaaa! Okay, let me stop screaming. Our baby girl sorry head of house for this week plays the role of Nifemi in this movie and she did well considering the fact that she’s new in the movie industry. I enjoyed watching her on my screen even though her character was more similar to her real personality in BBNaija, can’t wait to see her explore other roles once she gets out of the house. We are rooting for you!
Nancy Isime and Alexx Ekubo carried the weight of the movie on their shoulders, take them out and the movie would have been a flop. Nancy Isime plays Teni, the fake girlfriend and she killed her role effortlessly, she was so much fun to watch, her expressions were so relatable and the flow with Uzor and Belinda looked so real.
Alexx Ekubo played Emeka, the playboy/unserious friend like I said he and Nancy brought the fun to our screen, they gave us professional smooth acting unlike the rest of the cast. Ifu Ennada still has a lot of brushing up to do with her acting but it was good seeing her on our screen.
Uzor Arukwe played Jide the male lead character, I honestly didn’t enjoy watching him, I felt he could have been better.
There were some painful scenes I couldn’t just ignore especially the one when they were having dinner and Teni kept elbowing Jide to play his part, like elbow??? Why so obvious just a hard step on his toe under the table would have done the magic and make it less awkward and funnier than she using her elbow.
Conclusion
I had fun watching it, they had some unnecessary scenes though but it’s cool, the production was neat, the costume was on point and the location was the highlight, it sorta made me miss the good old days before corona happened. I highly recommend you watch this movie, it’s currently showing on Netflix. Watch the trailer below…
