Career
He attended the Baptist church in the village of Berry Hill, Jamaica, where at the age of ten he showed his talent for singing. He says, “It was just a natural progression to sing on the sound systems, as they were there around most corners it was just what I did next. “He had already visited various studios of Jamaica and traveled with several Sound Systems. By the age of 20, he had recorded his first song with the famous producer, Harry J, called “Rock On” (1983) (unreleased). His singing career continued in Jamaica
In 1988 Ranks left to join his family in England. The first song he recorded was a single “Tell Me Why” (1988). Ranks returned to Jamaica in 1989, returning to the UK in 1992 where he formed the band "Fire Corner. “In 1994, the band broke up and pursued a solo career, having a very busy concert schedule in the UK. In 1999 he finally released his first solo album, called "Cheer Up” (World Sounds) " which was a huge success in Brazil, mainly in Bahia and Maranhao, where the artist has a veritable legion of fans.
In 2000, his career was already widely accepted, leading to the second album -"True Love" followed by "Never Let Me Down," (2001) and "You Can do it," (2008) Digital & CD Ranks continued to tour accompanying other artists like Gregory Isaacs, Owen Grey, Eric Donaldson, and JC Lodge.
In Brazil, the artist has performed in several cities, such as Maranhão, Salvador, and Feira de Santana Camaçari, having always been very well received by audiences. In 2003 he toured St. Lucia and in the same year, he went back to Brazil for another concert. He has also performed with stars such as Derrick Morgan, Jimmy London, John Hogan, and Christine Joy White.
In 2005 he performed in Brazil in Salvador. In 2008 he released the single “Shy Guy” which is also featured on the “Road of Life” album (2009) 2010 saw a shift in style with the release of the Roots/Dub Style album “Jah is My Rock” under the moniker “Cyrenius Black.” Siddy performed at the Love Fest Concert in St Lucia (2012).
He toured with The Abyssinians (2013), Salvadore, Brazil. The album “Sidewalk” was released in 2014 (Nubeat) which features mainly self-penned songs. A music video for one of the songs featured on the album “I Wanna Be” is available on YouTube. He performed at the Sierra Leone Charity event in 2015 and supported Maxi Priest at Brixton Electric in February 2016. in June 2016 realised single “Let Her Go” EP.
Siddy Ranks die on September, 17th 2021 a victim of Covid-19 in London.
